Two legends have decided to travel across India and promote reading by taking 4,000 books with them.
Satabdi Mishra and Akshaya Kumar Rautaray are traveling through India with a truck filled with books and are dead set on getting the locals to read more by offering up the chance to read the books at no cost.
The trip lasted 90 days across more than 10,000 km and at least 20 states in India and the couple convert truck into a small library on wheels which is causing a stir along the way. During the trip they held small book fairs in parking lots and encouraged the locals to come and choose books to read for as long as they wished.
“People are free to walk in to the truck and read books for as long as they want to. We don’t charge them any fees whatsoever. For those who want to purchase something from us we give them a flat 20% off,” ssys Mishra.
All kinds of books are in the stock from educational to thrillers and romantic novels and they feel the trip has encouraged people to read and see the world as a land of open borders.
“We as a society, as citizens, as parents, teachers and friends, have an obligation to inspire and encourage young people to read more books. It is only through books that we can create a truly beautiful world without boundaries where each of us can realize their true potential,” says Rautaray who i part of the project who helped organize this trip.
